Daryl Fort is a leadership and organizational development consultant, and, gender violence prevention activist, speaker and educator. Focusing on developing healthy and thriving community, organizational and peer group culture, he has worked with community-based and non-profit organizations as well as public and private sector institutions throughout North America, Eastern Asia, Europe, Iraq and Australia.
He spent 14 years as a political and public policy advisor to former U.S. Congressman and Governor of Maine, John Baldacci. As a Senior policy advisor to Governor Baldacci, Daryl coordinated Administration initiatives and policy development involving sexual assault and domestic violence, reproductive rights, children and youth, higher education, multicultural affairs, homelessness, civil rights and Tribal affairs among other issue areas.
During his government service, Daryl served on the Maine Children’s Cabinet, along with Commissioners for the State’s Agencies dealing with health and welfare, education, labor development and youth services. He led the state’s initiatives establishing an Office of Multicultural Affairs, Office of Health Equity, and, Multicultural Affairs Cabinet. He helped revitalize a dormant Maine State Tribal Commission. He coordinated the Administration’s youth recruitment and retention initiative, Realize Maine. He also led the initiative to establish Domestic and Sexual violence workplace policies throughout State Government, covering nearly two dozen agencies and training for over eighteen thousand employees.
Since leaving government, some of the organizations Daryl has consulted with include, the Maine office of Multicultural Affairs, MVP Strategies, the Institute for Sport and social Justice, Futures Without Violence, the U.S. OVAW, the National Sexual Violence Resource Center, Center for Violence Prevention, the Alberta Council of Women’s Shelters, Wabanaki Public Health, The University of Southern Maine, Bowdoin College, Colby College, Community Rowing, Inc, the University of Northern Iowa Center for Violence Prevention, among many others in strategic planning and implementation, leadership development, curriculum and program development, as well as facilitation training.
As a subject matter expert in sexual assault prevention with the United States Marine Corp, the U.S. Department of Defense, the U.S. Department of the Navy, and United States Air Force, and the Australian Army he has worked directly with thousands of military personnel around the world, including, deployed troops in Iraq, Europe and Asia.
Daryl has also worked with Ownership and Executive leadership, professional athletes, coaches, professional staff, administrators, and, league officials from the NFL, CFL, NBA, Major League Baseball, NASCAR, the NCAA, and, the Australian Rules Football League as well as thousands of collegiate athletes, and, hundreds of coaches from the SEC, Big Ten, ACC, PAC 12, and, dozens of other colleges and Universities - both inside and outside or athletics.
A former Trustee for Maine Boys to Men, the Maine Center for Sport and Coaching and the Maine Center for Economic Policy, Daryl currently serves on the board of directors for the Maine Sports Hall of Fame (Chair, Program Committee), Planned Parenthood of Northern New England (Chair, Governance Committee), and The Maine Coalition to End Domestic Violence (Board Chair). Among his work with those organizations, he served as a Founding member, helping to establish nonprofit status and multiple organizational mergers.
A native of New Haven, Connecticut and current resident of Portland, Maine, he holds a BA in Political Science from the University of Maine where he was also a Tight End and Defensive End on the Football Team.
